Adoption Center

As unbelievable as it may sound, sadly sometimes people leave their pets at our hospital and never return for them. At our nonprofit adoption center, we care for these orphaned pets and find them a new home. We believe they deserve a happy life with someone who will love and take care of them—maybe that’s you! We strive to make the adoption process simple but as thorough as possible, read on to learn more about adopting a pet.

Our Pet Adoption Process

  1. Check out our family – Review our pets below or visit our hospital for an up close and personal look at our family of pets in need.
  2. Interview – Meet with our adoption center director, Angie Taylor, who will ask you a series of questions to ensure your new pet is a good fit for your family.
  3. Application – Complete our application so we have all the necessary info needed for a stress-free and safe adoption process. Click Here for a printable copy of the application.
  4. Meet your pet – It’s time for your meet and greet! Both you and your prospective pet will have a chance to get acquainted and find out if you might be a perfect match. If not, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with other pets that may be a better fit.
  5. Donate to our center – Your $100 donation goes directly back to the Save the Animals Adoption Center to provide medical treatment and vaccinations.
  6. One-week trial – Adopting a pet is a serious commitment. That’s why we offer a trial period for you and your pet to get to know each other and learn if you’re a perfect fit.

Our Featured Pet

toby - pomToby is our Pet of the Month. He was adopted as a young kitten, and lived in a home with other cats. Sadly, his mom recently passed away, and now he is hoping to find someone to love him as much as his mom did. He gets along with other cats, but is skittish, so would do best in a quieter home, with no small children. He does have a heart murmur that should be monitored at his routine wellness visits. His adoption fee is 1/2 off for the entire month of February.

Our non-profit adoption center is located in Windcrest Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware and was created in memory of a former employee and pre-veterinary student, Kathy Rinneer.
